That matches what I was told last night. RCI is pulling ships out of Miami, sending nearly a dozen to Europe in 2011, and pushing most of the rest out of Port Everglades.

Very hard.

In one of my earlier posts, I asked if anyone has been to Baltimore and New York for RCL and can compare them.

We're definitely considering New York and looking at taking a Bermuda cruise. However, for the price of sailing RCL on a five day Bermuda cruise, we can sail for seven days on a Norwegian cruise on the Norwegian Gem.

I recognize that the ship is smaller and that you have sail out of the NCL port on Manhattan, but you get two extra days (one on Bermuda, one at sea) for the same cost.

What would you do?

Sorry for the slow response. Fell at work, ironically on my birthday, breaking my ankle. Lots of fun. But, speaking of the two ports, I have only traveled out of Bayonne.

I've heard good things about Baltimore, they have secure parking at the nominal $15 per day. They built a nice, new facility a few years back, so it is pretty comfortable on balance.

The cruise port at Bayonne is a converted Navy dock. Very large, wide-open. Pretty easy to access from the bus I rode into it from. The parking is secure, at least in that the entire dock facility is gated, and it is nearly a mile from the entrance to the parking area. They charge $19 per day. For my money, the experience of cruising out of Bayonne, with the New York skyline, Statue of Liberty, would be worth it. You can see many pictures of my short cruise on Liberty of the Seas in the Gallery.

My wife and I are considering an RCL cruise sometime next year. Since we want to drive, we're considering something close to home; either Baltimore or New York City. Has anyone done both so that they can compare? Baltimore is a bit closer to us, but the prices are generally more expensive.

Thanks in advance!

Yes. We actually have a 'Pre-Cruise Package' at the SpringHill Suites Houston Hobby Airport for guests that want to come in, stay with us, park their car and catch the shuttle to the port. The hotel offers free self parking daily. The package costs $169 plus tax and includes two round trip adult transfers on the shuttle. Additional round trip transfers may be purchased at the hotel front desk - $59 for Adults and $49 for Children 11 and under, Under 3 ride free. For more information, please visit our website below.

http://www.PreCruise.com

***Please note that we require at least one days notice to book the shuttle. Also, leaving your car at the hotel is at your own risk. Hotel does not provide security in the parking lot. If you desire security or covered parking, we can direct you to a local parking structure to park your vehicle during your cruise.***

Some of my business operations have done well, and it appears I'll be able to make yet another round of major technical upgrades to the site.

I've not been thrilled with the blog platform, and in truth I think the somewhat cumbersome nature of it has lead to a lack of use. That will be fixed.

I'm loath to follow trends for the sake of doing it, but we'll be adding a social networking system here, which should boost most of the other functions.

And the odds favor my adding a full function "review" system to our site. None of this is free, but we should be in good shape shortly.

Likewise, I'm looking at a massive email campaign to put our site onto the map at long last. So the more active we are now, the better the impact once that begins.

Having just returned I have a few comments about the ship. Don't get me wrong I would sail on it again. But some things bugged me. The same things are probably true on all Freedom class ships.

Jogging track: Being up on 12 deck made it unuseable due the deck winds on the sea days and /or the chairs throwen about by the wind. On port days people wandering about made it look like interstate 95 at rush hour. Some where taking their little old time and some where going real fast

Dinning room: The way the work stations are aranged I though I was walking thru the Kitchen to get to my table.

Solarium: No glass roof. No longer can you hide in there on bad weather days.

Helipad: A little small in the first place then thay put benches around the inercircle. Great on a moonlit night but harder to land on. Then theirs the rope from the front mast to the top of the ship over the center of the pad. Can the coast guard even land on the ship? Based on all the air medical I have done I don't think so.

Then their is the topic of Haiti:

Locals let it be known how thankfull thay were to still have jobs. No ships No jobs

The UN meet the ship at the dock to pick up the 120+ pallets we hade on board. Dispute the fact thay spoke no English thay were polite and posed for photo's. SOMEONE PLEASE GET THE U.N. SOME BETTER TRUCKS!!!

It is rare to impossible to get the Captains to officiate these days. RCCL either doesn't allow it, or strongly discourages it. And that has much to do with the desire to prevent folks from rushing to get married and such during a cruise. Likewise, it drives more folks to the official services they offer.

I am in such dire need of a cruise, I envy your trip!

I haven't tried it, but lord knows people are Google'ing the name Royal Caribbean Equinox and finding this site. Not sure how that happened!

The names, many, the prices, well, not being one to drink too much, I can't speak to those. Most reports I read say they are fair, given the venue and such.

Your kids are going to have a great time on the Mariner of the Seas. They have a great kids program. My nephew cried when we made him eat with us on formal night. The Mariner has a self serve soft ice cream machine on the pool deck starboad side. Yummy. Also don't miss the ice show. Unbelieveable what they can do on a small ice rink. Get down to Studio B about 20 to 30 minutes before the show and you should be able to get any seat you want. There was children sitting in the front rows and one of the stints they do is with clowns and they brought out this cart out and loaded it up with some of the children to ride around the ice rink with the clowns. The look on their faces was priceless. They also had a "Family Disco night" where parents and children took over the disco (Dragons Liar) one night. Fun.
If you have any questions I would be happy to answer.

Hello
We were on the Mariner of the Seas on June 28th. We used a tour company called Cabo San Lucas tours http://www.cabosanlucastours.net/
They offer shore excrusions at all three of the ports you visiting. We used them in Mazatlan and did the "Beach Break". Great deal! Check out their website and just click on the tab "more tours" and you will be able to check out what they have to offer in each of your ports. My friend did do the "swim with the dolphins" in Cabo and didn't book online thinking she would get a better deal once she got down there, but she ended up paying more. We originally booked with this company in May and then our cruise itinerary was changed because of the swine flu scare. They refunded our money with no problem. So in June when the ship resumed their itinerary back down to Mexico we booked another cruise in June (price was to good to let it get by) and rebooked with Cabo San Lucas tours. Are you on the Mariner of the Seas or the Splendor? We had a blast. Hope your cruise will be just as much fun.

Hi! My name is Kelly. I'm a forty-something woman from Williamsburg, Virginia. I've been on about 10 cruises, with 2 being in RCI. My next trip is January 3, 2010 on Liberty of the Seas. I'm so excited! I was on Freedom on the seas in January 2007 and it was wonderful. I generally travel solo. Glad to find these message boards.

Hello fellow cruisers! I am going on a cruise to Mexico (Cabo, Mazatlan and Puerta Vallarta) in November and I am looking for anyone who might know which shore excursions are best for families (5 and 10 yr old with us). I would love to hear any recommendations (especially on the dolphin ones).

Thank you!:P

I'm looking forward to it, though when I'll get a chance to see her in person, who knows.

No doubt her size limits where she'll go. But several ports are are constructing new piers to support her arrivals.

The photos from her construction seem to put the size and layout into perspective. Much as the loss of a formal Centrum seems bad, I think it has more to do with this class than anything else. I'm not sure how many of these they can build in the mid-term.
